A common business requirement for InfoPath forms is to prevent the form from being edited after submission to the form library.  While there are several ways to accomplish this task, including editing item level permissions, using audiences or setting a flag via a workflow, many environments can deploy a much easier solution.  You can use these steps to implement a simple read only on submit solution.

While the SharePoint Project Site template and Task List Gantt Chart view is a nice tool for team collaboration on projects, it has not been very helpful in managing larger projects that require administration from within Microsoft Project.  This usually results in additional work or cutting and pasting of tasks from project into the Datasheet view in SharePoint.  

Well, while researching functionality for a client project, I came across a wonderful plug-in for Microsoft Project that performs the synchronization with a SharePoint list from Team Direction called IntelliGantt Microsoft Project Add In.   My experience with this tool has been very positive and I believe this tool would provide a significant return on investment over time for companies that want to collaborate on projects within SharePoint.  In addition, the plug in is deployed on the client workstation or laptop and does not require any components to be deployed to SharePoint. 

One of the most frequently requested features related to SharePoint is the ability to create reminder notifications for tasks that are assigned in SharePoint.  Reminders are not a function that SharePoint performs out of the box and even using a tool like SharePoint Designer can be difficult to configure to send different levels of alerts in addition to requiring the workflow be deployed to each list and library that needs these alerts.

Bamboo Solutions has created a web part that helps solve this problem, the Alert Plus Web Part.  The Alert Plus web part allows you to

§  Send targeted alerts to the appropriate users immediately or on a schedule

§  Send alerts to a specific user/distribution group or dynamically based on the list or document attribute

§  Send alerts when specific column of data is changed

§  Use specific views or build filters

§  Send a summary email for multiple items that meet the alert criteria

§  For more complex alert conditions build queries based on CAML to determine what data to alert on

Search is a very powerful feature within SharePoint.  There are countless ways to further customize is functionality within SharePoint.  Try searching on the internet for SharePoint Search and find numerous ways to modify search to meet your needs.  There’s even a specific Microsoft Certification dedicated to Search.  

There are also simple customizations that only involve the Out of the Box Web Parts and don’t require a PHD in Search to implement.   One of those web parts is the People Search Core Results web part that is available within MOSS 2007.  This web part is used on the default People Search results page and includes properties about the users profile from Active Directory.
